Baby Xavier Powell is a product of IVF or In Vitro Fertilization. In Vitro Fertilization is the process of fertilization without intercourse by combining an egg and sperm in a laboratory and then transferring the developed embryo in the uterus. In baby Xavier’s case, his dad’s preserved sperm had undergone IVF after more than two decades of preservation. This case was first time and was considered a miracle because technically, preserved sperm only lasts for some time.

Alex Powell, baby Xavier’s father, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma at the age of 15 years old that made his step mother to encouraged him to try In Vitro Fertilization in which the first step is to preserve his sperm until he finish his battle with cancer.

23 years later, Cancer-free Alex and his wife made up their mind to finally have a baby of their own and that is where Baby Xavier came to their lives. The developed embryo was implanted to Alex’s wife. And just like other moms, Alex’s wife conceived and gave birth to baby Xavier who is healthy and included in the Guiness Book of World Records as the product of the world’s oldest sperm.
