We have seen countless heartbreaking stories being shared on social media, and it being used to promote acts of kindness and goodwill towards those people in need. Just like the story we came across in after a concerned netizen posted the picture and narration of a supposed retired airforce veteran roaming the streets of antique, hungry and penniless. Despite the apparent service to the army, with a rank of Staff Seargent (SSg), Narciso dela Cruz Alpas or known as “Tatay Isok”, he was left penniless and in such decrepit condition. According to sources, Tatay Isok was abandoned on the streets after some of his relatives took advantage of his monthly pension which could have costed enough to support the old veteran through his old age.
After being abandoned and apparent “stealing” of this old man’s privileges, his relatives were nowhere to be found leaving him to fend for himself.
Based on the Executive Order 76, as SSg, the old man should receive a monthly pension costing PHP 27,997.50 in total. The forgotten hero roaming the streets were photographed, had a little chat, and was posted in social media to gather the attention of authorities and help rescue him and give what he truly deserves as an airforce veteran.
The Philippine Airforce heard about Tatay Isok and was deeply saddened about the incident. According to their Facebook post, they have informed the local authorities to take legal actions regarding the manner. Tatay Isok was taken to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and was taken care of Samahan ng mga Retired at Active NCO-AFP Survivors Atbp. (SARANCO Atbp). There, Tatay Isok was able to receive, after a long time, a hearty meal to fill himself up. Part of his rehabilitation as well was getting a haircut and immediate treatment of his wounds.
Many are also petitioning for Tatay Isok to be taken for a checkup regarding his physical and mental conditions as according to concerned citizens, the veteran soldier was seen having symptoms of apparent mental illness. But all in all, many are happy for him as he will finally get what he truly deserves in his retirement age after his many years of dedicated service in the Philippine Air Force (PAF).
